Former President Hipolito Mejia says that 20% of the candidates on the PRD ticket are not even fit to be mayors of small towns. He said there were many bad candidates on the PRD ticket. Mejia criticized the party's handpicked candidates.
Mejia made the statement during a visit to the Botanical Gardens to plant a tree for his 69th birthday.
Moreover, he criticized President Leonel Fernandez for taking out loans for more than RD$10 billion to pay for political patronage posts to his followers.
He said that the ruling PLD would only be able to retain congressional and municipal control by using government funds in its political campaign.
