It is being reported that the FARC contracted musicians in the DR to compose a catchy and upbeat merengue song to attract recruits and improve the image of the Colombian guerrilla force. The merengue composition can be viewed on You Tube, but neither the singer nor the local composer has been identified. According to Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, the composer was paid US$14,000.
The FARC is Colombia's largest rebel group that is widely condemned for human rights abuses. This news emerged following the confiscation of computers from the FARC by Colombia's police, as reported in El Tiempo newspaper on Monday.
The song invites listeners to "move their hips" and "carry the grenades and the rifles" and to bring an end to Colombia's government.
