Music stars including Juan Luis Guerra, Emilio Estefan and Quincy Jones worked together for the Spanish language version of "We are the World for Haiti" - "Somos el mundo para Haiti."
The recording took place in Miami on 19 February, making the most of the presence of many Latin musicians in town for Univision's Premios Lo Nuestro awards ceremony. The proceeds will go towards the rebuilding of Haiti through the We Are the World Foundation.
Dominican musicians taking part included Aventura, Milly Quezada and Eddy Herrera. Diario Libre reports that the track will be launched on 1 March on Univision's Cristina Show and will be for sale on iTunes.
Also lending their talents were Carlos Santana, Jose Feliciano, Chayanne, Ricardo Montaner, Arthur Hanlon, El Puma, Alejandro Fernandez, Vicente Fernandez, Paulina Rubio, Jon Secada, Luis Fonsi, Paulina Rubio, Gloria Stefan, Olga Tanon, Thalia, AB Quintanilla, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Willy Chirino, Lissette, Cristian Castro, Andy Garcia, Ednita Nazario, and others.
This is the first time that "We Are the World" has been translated into another language.
A concert organized by Dominican artist Juan Luis Guerra was also recently announced, with funds earmarked to build a children's hospital in Haiti. The "A Song of Hope for Haiti" show is due to take place on April 18 in Santo Domingo's Olympic Stadium.
