[DR1] Tax collections up 31%

The Tax Department has reported collections of RD$53.9 billion over from January to June 2006 - RD$12,78 billion more than the same period in 2005, which represents a 31% increase. The breakdown is as follows: income tax 38%; ITBIS (VAT) 27%; selective consumer tax 11%; and the selective service tax 6%. Other taxes collected make up 19% of the total.
