The DNCD has arrested Soterio Junior Jimenez Martinez, who is sought for extradition for heroin trafficking by a New York court. He was arrested at the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) office in San Francisco de Macoris when he visited the office to look into the arrest of his look-alike brother who had been detained at the Piedra Blanca crossing on the Duarte Highway. He presented himself to secure his brother's release. As reported in Diario Libre, Jimenez is now under arrest at the DNCD headquarters in Santo Domingo, from where he could be extradited to the US. The newspaper says that he is described as a multi-millionaire with many properties in the northeast, and several luxury vehicles. The DNCD is awaiting authorization for the extradition from the Supreme Court of Justice. As reported, the authorities had been on his trail for more than a month, after an extradition request was received from a New York City court. He will be tried in the US for trafficking in heroin and illegal possession of firearms, both federal crimes.
