Former colonel and chief of security to former President Hipolito Mejia, Pedro Julio "Pepe" Goico Guerrero, returns to court at 9:00am today, where Judge Natividad Ramona Santos will continue the hearings against him, Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo, and a group of people accused of laundering assets produced through drug trafficking. The others accused of direct participation, complicity, protection and money laundering in this case are Ernesto Bienvenido Guevara Diaz, Francisco Manuel Alburquerque Fortuna, Eleuterio Guante, retired General Julio Rafael Molina Suazo, Belkis Ubri Medrano, Ramon Vasquez Garcia, Raul Perez Nunez, Pedro Ubiera, Angel Cuevas Guillen and Raycito Valdez.


The National District's First Collegiate Court will also continue with the Baninter case hearing at 10:00am today. Judges hearing the case are Antonio Sanchez Mejia, Pilar Rufino Diaz and Giselle Mendez. Diario Libre reports that the case file fills 54 trunks and 10 boxes of papers estimated at some 400,000 pages. A total of 300 defense and prosecution witnesses are due to take the stand. Ramon Baez Figueroa, Marcos Baez Cocco, Vivian Lubrano de Castillo, Luis Alvarez Renta and Jesus Troncoso Ferrua stand accused of the fraudulent bankruptcy of Banco Intercontinental (Baninter), which caused losses of more than RD$55 billion to the state.
