Customs (DGA) director Rafael Camilo told reporters yesterday that the administrative measure that reduces the tariffs on imports by poultry and pork producers by 50% is to provide protection for the sectors and to reduce the cost of key foods for the Dominican population. "We have ordered a 50%reduction in tariff payments in raw materials and machinery imported for use in the production of poultry and pork, as well as eggs, as a way to reduce the production costs and maintain local market prices of these popular consumption products", said Camilo.
These statements by the DGA director came after a meeting with poultry and pork producers in the Cibao region, held in the town of Licey al Medio on Monday. Camilo said the government was trying to protect the producers, but also to ensure food production for the population.
