Former Police chief and the man who is described as the embodiment of "mano dura," - iron fist - a euphemism for "wipe out the criminals", submitted a request for recognition as a political party at the Central Electoral Board yesterday. His party will be known as Partido Accion Popular. He was interviewed at the JCE yesterday. He proposes to strengthen the democratic system that has been weakened by corruption, impunity and the collapse of traditional political parties. He commented that the authorities have concentrated their efforts on attacking the effects of crime, not the causes. He also proposes to strengthen the nation's security-related institutions.
