The Organization of American States (OAS) observation mission during the May 16 mid-term elections in the Dominican Republic reported on the lack of training of the personnel staffing the voting stations and recommended that greater efforts be made to train them in the future. Clave Digital reports that the mission's report presented last Wednesday in Washington suggests "a greater effort to train and prepare the authorities at voting stations and Municipal Boards". The report was presented to the OAS Permanent Council. The mission claims that the slow transmission of results from the voting stations to the Municipal Boards was caused by a "lack of sufficient knowledge of the procedures and the application of rules observed at a large number of voting stations and the Municipal Boards". The mission also reported on "the complexity" of the vote counting process at the polling stations, due to the large number of positions to be elected and the party alliances. The OAS mission was composed of 70 observers.
