An apparent lack of police patrols in San Cristobal has claimed another victim. This time a man was killed by an angry mob after he stole a motorcycle in La Toma during the early morning hours of Sunday. Unfortunately for 30 year-old Severino Antonio Rivas, a.k.a. Villa Penca, his head was badly disfigured, his body beaten by clubs, machetes and riddled by gunshots. The body was sent to the Forensic Pathology Institute for autopsy. According to El Nuevo Diario, a lack of police patrols in the area has pushed the local population to form vigilante groups in order to protect their possessions. According to the paper, 21 people have died violent deaths in the province of San Cristobal in the first two months of the year, mostly by gunshots or knife wounds.
