President Leonel Fernandez retired 10 generals yesterday but promoted seven colonels to the rank of general. In his 27 of February state of the nation address, the President said that there was a need to limit the positions available for generals in the military and for their automatic retirement.
The retired generals included five from the Army, four from the Navy and one from the Air Force: Rafael Radhames Ramirez Ferreira, Julio Cesar Ventura Bayonet, Hector Antonio Jacobo Reyes, Jose Almonte Sanchez, Luis Mariano Rodriguez Martinez, Jorge Aquiles Medrano Volquez, Antonio Carrero Alvarez, Francisco Manuel Frias Olivencia, Raul Enrique Franceschini and Aquilino Maria Melo. The new generals are Rafael Florentino Perez, Tomas de la Rosa Pastrano, Francisco Araujo Vidal, Alexis Ramon Santana Almonte, Manuel de Jesus Ferreira, Jose Manuel Restituyo Larrache and Martin Leonardo Medina Ogando.
