The Ministry of Education says that Ladom will no longer be the supplier of milk in the Maimon area. 40 students at the Angel Rosario Marte Elementary School suffered food poisoning last week after drinking milk supplied by the company. The Ministry has not revealed the results of the microbiological tests on the milk samples at the Dr. Defillo Laboratories, Biotechnology and Industrial Innovation Institute and the Dairy Training Center (CAL) at the UASD state university. The results will be available on Friday.
Paredes said the supplier was being replaced because the students are nervous about drinking the school breakfast milk supplied by this company. The students had to be hospitalized after several fainted, suffered nausea and vomited a few minutes after consuming the milk.
Ladom made headlines in 2008 when investigative journalist Nuria Piera revealed that the company's school breakfast products were well below the minimum protein level required by the Ministry of Education and questioned the company's ties to the former Minister of Education and PLD party director Alejandrina German. German was later transferred to the Ministry of Women.
