Today's Listin Diario criticizes the fact that the public lighting of Santo Domingo's seafront boulevard known as the Malecon has not been restored. The newspaper stresses that the Malecon is second only to the Colonial City as a major attraction in Santo Domingo, and several hotels are located on the avenue.
The unlit section stretches from the Colonial City down to the Hotel Santo Domingo. "In the evening, the lack of lighting is a cause for concern, as is the absence of a real police watch". The newspaper says that mayor Roberto Salcedo had announced RD$300 million would be spent on restoring the Malecon's former splendor. The newspaper also criticized the fact that the benches along the avenue that runs along the south edge of the city facing the Caribbean Sea have not been restored.
