Seven business associations in Santiago and northern regions met to sign an institutional agreement to promote and demand a legislative and municipal agenda in tune with the development of the region through a wide social pact. With the signing of the Commitment Santiago 2010-2016, signing institutions committed to ask government officers for accountability. "We are obliged to demand that the candidates keep a municipal program and legislative agenda to defend the interests of Santiago with equity and justice in the handling of government funds for the region," reads the document. The business leaders complain that the government has assigned less than 2% of the National Budget and less than 1% of the Gross Domestic Product to the region.
The agreement was signed by Lina Garcia from the North Region Association of Industries (Airen), Miguel Lama of the Santiago Free Zone Industries Corporation (CZFIS), Eduardo Trueba for the Association for Development and Olivero Espaillat of the Chamber of Commerce, Aquiles Bermudez of the Santiago Free Zones Association of Industries, Luis Nunez Ramirez of the Santiago Stores and Industries Association (ACIS), Carlos Alfredo Fondeur Victoria of the Council for Strategic Development of Santiago (CDES) and businessman Fernando Capellan, president of the Dominican Free Zones Association (Adozona).
