Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso says the country can evaluate its own performances without the need for reports. He said that the DR does not issue a report on corruption in the US, and the US should not interfere in Dominican domestic affairs.
He commented that despite the global financial crisis few have been arrested in the US, and even while it is said that US justice is slow but sure, "it would be good if they acted faster there also," as reported in Listin Diario.
In its US Drug Report 2010, the US State Department says that corruption is "endemic" at all levels of government and throughout private special interest groups in the Dominican Republic.
Speaking at a workshop for Dominican companies interested in bidding for reconstruction work in Haiti, Morales said the country is aware that now more than ever it needs to combat corruption in both the public and private sector, on a global scale and in Latin America.
The 2010 US Report on Drugs stated that corruption is "endemic" in the Dominican Republic and is an obstacle to the fight against drugs.
