The Superior Police Council has issued a two-week deadline for its high-ranking officers to submit their sworn declarations of assets. By "high-ranking" officers, the statement refers to officers above the rank of Captain.
Major General Rafael Guillermo Guzman Fermin told reporters that he would be the first to file the statement. Measures adopted by the Council include the creation of an Office for Monitoring and Supervision of the statements presented by each Police officer. The office will come under the Central Department of Internal Affairs.
An Advisory Office for members of the National Police was also created to assist in the preparation of the sworn statements of assets, and this office will operate out of the Central Department of Legal Affairs.
Meanwhile, the Superior Police Council ordered the National Police Ethics Commission, in addition to its other functions, to supervise the performance of the Internal Affairs and Legal Affairs offices, with regard to the sworn declarations of assets by members of the institution.
