The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) has issued an alert for possible heavy surf that could go inland along the low-lying areas between Montecristi and Samana, mainly in Nagua, Cabrera and Rio San Juan. Onamet is advising local residents to take precautions. The heavy surf is attributed to a low-pressure system that could "lead to waves that penetrate inland". Small craft warnings are posted along the coast, and boats are being warned to stay in port. Today's weather will be influenced by a nearly stationary frontal system that seems to be parked over the eastern portion of the island.
