The deadline is past for making alliances and, after the Central Electoral Board (JCE) issued its approval last Saturday regarding the deals made by the principal political parties, all that is left to do is the official registration of the candidates due by 17 March.
The JCE accepted the alliances worked out by the PLD and 13 organizations that make up the Progressive Bloc, as well as those made by the PRD and six political entities.
The board accepted the PLD alliances with the Progressive Bloc composed of the PQDC, PDP, PASOVE, PAL, PLRD, UDC, BIS, PUN, PPC, PTD, PRSC, APD and the FHP.
The Electoral Board also accepted the PRD alliances with the PDI, PCR, PNVC, MODA, MIUCA and the PHD.
The JCE did reject the PRD alliance with the ASD, because that party did not hold the required convention.
The magistrates also approved the alliance between the UDC and the PDI as well as the one between the MIUCA and the PDI.
Now the political parties will take on the preparation of their tickets with the candidates that will be running in the provinces and the National District for the congressional seats and in the election districts for all of the municipal jobs. These lists will then have to be registered at the JCE. New conflicts are expected inside the political parties regarding the make-up of the tickets, since they should include the winners of the party's primaries, the quota of women, and those for whom positions have been reserved by party echelons.
