When I got there the last time for the 6AM from Santiago to Sosua I was told none untill 8AM. Now that was a Sunday so I don't know if schedule is different during the week. Anyone who has taken the Spirit flight that gets into Santiago at 4AM and then took Caribe to Sosua can you let us know if they really have a 6AM leaving Santiago during the week or Saturday. Fuck the station didn't even open untill 6AM.I know because I got dropped off there by taxi at 4:45 AM expecting the station to open at 5 and that didn't happen.Kinda scarry if you have that happen untill I spotted the Security Gaurd with the sawed off shotgun then I felt a little better!!

Quick story as this 'bus' thread reminded me ...

- took the Metro Bus with Apos to Villa Gonzalez to meet "a friend".

- took a decent size GuaGua coming back.

- about a half hour before Sosua i had to jump out cuz i'd been holding my piss for an hour and a half and if it was for a minute more i would have pee'd on the bus floor.

- hundreds of people out on the street in Puerto Plata but i dip in someone's backyard to relieve myself

- hop on a moto with Apos to the next guagua station

- this guagua is made for 7 people but there's like 25 in there already

- the guy keeps stopping and now it's like 30

- tight as a muthafucka in there but i'm lovin' the whole ridiculousness of it

- finally get to Sosua and literally 15 seconds after we get out i see 2 lovelies walking and flashing a smile

- 10 seconds after 'hola' ... Lucero (809) 956-91xx

Gotta love that town. :)

Damn we had some fun! :corky:

More fun in a week or 2 than most people have in a year...or a lifetime! :D

People need to get out and DO something, go places, not just "hit the strip" day after day, night after night! Not that there's anything wrong with that but damn, there's way more to the DR, and life, than just ground hog day....and repeat!

You said it. I get bored if I am in Sosua for more than 5 days or so. But that's because I've been outside the tourist areas and know what kind of fun that can be had.

And I ride Caribe Tours so much that they ought to work out a way to give me some frequent rider mileage. I mean, seriously. You can ride from one end of the island to the other for about $8. Can't beat that with a stick.

Public transportation in the DR is definitely affordable to us. If you can speak even a little Spanish I suggest people using Caribe Tours, Metro, and carro publicos over the taxis any day.

If your bored in Sosua walk to the Texaco station during the day and hop in a carro publico. For a few pesos you can end up far away from the tourists and see interesting places.

Maybe I’m reading the schedule wrong but what’s the times / location from SDQ to Sosua? Is Caribe my best option?

I used the take jet blue to STI and then an early AM Caribe tours to SDQ. Never took a 6 am but 7 am sure. I used to take a taxi from STI to Patron Burger and hang there till like 6 am then walk or taxi the short distance to caribe tours las colinas. One night I hung all night at plaza broadway before the curfew and earlier closing times.

Later on I would just crash in a cabana for a few hours then head to caribe tours in the am.

im confused by the above schedule..

i come in on the 4am spirit flight.

last trip i paid 75 each way for a private taxi.

someone mentioned takin carib tours..

ONE HUNDRED PESOS ?!?!?!? i'm down !!

but, teh schedule above implies that you leave sti at 6am, and then stopover in santiago at 8:30 and arrive in sosua at 10:30am

is this true? a 4 and half hour bus ride ?!?!?

THAT, i am not down with.

i'd rather spend the money on the taxi. taxi only took a little over an hour.

I've ridden Caribe Tours from Santiago to Sosua more times than I can count. It's never taken more than 2hrs (this doesn't include riding to the station and waiting on the next bus). And I think that the fare is closer to $150RD.

I've also taken a taxi from STI to Sosua. That was just because my flight into STI had been delayed (fuckin AA) for a couple of hours. And I had a villa reserved in Sosua for that night. Flight got in at 5:30pm. Was in a taxi by 6pm. Arrived at the Hispaniola villa community in Sosua by 7:30. Cost me $75 total.

I guess it's just a matter of personal choice. Personally, I like Santiago and make it a point to spend some time there on every trip. So waiting for the morning bus and saving $72 dollars is a no brainer for me.

But I can also understand why some guys may want to push on to Sosua as well.

i didnt want to take the bus last time, because i honestly, didnt know what it was..

i truly though, because of the price, that i was going to be smashed into a guagua with 20 other people for the hour and half ride.

then, on this trip, i saw the big carib tours busses, compelte with a/c .. now that i can handle.

but then the schedule above had me concerned as it looked like the trip would be 4 hours.

thanks for the info!

nap, ask them at the station if the bus is close to full, if so, buy 2 tickets so you won't be crowded.... so its 300 peso rather than 150.... extra 5 bucks for 2 hours of guaranteed comfort... just make sure you got a sweat shirt.. caribe tours stays chilly

Went to Sosua for the first time this January by myself and took the bus. Trip was only about 2hrs. Believe me and balcoach when we tell you to bring a jacket or something because if you don't you will freeze your ass off!

This is a great tip. Another would be to get on the bus at the Los Jardines station. There are two Caribe Tour bus stations in Santiago. I always go to the Los Jardines station because it's the first stop in Santiago and a lot of the passengers get off at this stop. I like to have a good selection of seats because it sucks to get stuck in the back near the chemical toilet.

Whats the hit for the taxi to go to Los Jardines??

Whats the hit for the taxi to go to Los Jardines??

Depends upon where you're coming from. Generally you can get anywhere within Santiago by taxi for 150 to 200 pesos, except the airport. Anytime you are going to or from the airport by taxi, you can expect to pay at least 700 pesos, or $20USD.

And so, airport to bus station, 700RD. Hotel or cabana to bus station, 150 to 200RD.

You have to take a taxi and it'll be $30+ USD one way IIRC. The Taxi union is strong and greedy :(

I land in Santo Domingo heading to Sosua. Which bus should I take Metro or Caribe? What's the difference? Is it Caribe that has the currency exchange onsite? I land at 2PM if that makes a difference with bus schedules. Time to take taxi to station.

Guys I would like to know how often does Carib Tours run to santo Domingo from Puerta Plata and how long it will take? They run like every hour it takes about 4 hours if I remember correctly. If I did not have plans in La capitol I would just fly into STi. It is less than 2 hours unless there is a hugh price difference I checked this week and actually AA had cheaper fares to STI. the worst part is when it is time to leave and get all the way back to SDQ.

You'll be safer in a bus than a cab. With the buses it is everyone else who has to look out.

Gonna be arriving in Puerto Plata next weekend (already have the ticket) or the following Friday (hope to find out in the next day or two). In arranging my transport from STI to PP I was checking the Caribe Tours site.........

64670

and noticed on the right side of the page "Salida Autobusses, and Reservaciones." It appears that I can make a reservation on the Autobus (which would be preferable as it departs at 6:00am as opposed to the usual 8:45am.) Couple of questions. Does anyone have experience with this particular service? Cost, travel time, etc.? Is the Autobus a van as opposed to the larger bus? Any other info would be appreciated.
