Hola Caballeros,

This will be my first Semana Santa in the DR and hopefully in Sosua, Specifically Friday March 26 to Easter Sunday March 28, 2010, From those with prior experience, what is the status in Sosua during the Easter Weekend?

In Costa Rica everything is shut down with no booze or beer available much less chicas. Even the Del Rey Marlin Bar is yellow taped off. The only time it has ever closed except after gun fire leading to fatal shooting by security of a disruptive agressive tico.

How are things in the DR and more importantly in Sosua during Semana Santa (a.k.a. Good Friday through Easter Sunday)?

Thank you,

Bandera

Note that Easter Sunday falls on April 4 this year, NOT March 28, 2010.

OK, I double checked with a local and was assured that Semana Santa started on Friday 3/26/10 and dia de resurecsion was 3/28/10. This is either another example of my failed attempts to understand the Espanol lengua, a goof by my local advisor and / or things muy Domincano.

So, based on the new data Easter in 4/4/10. That would make Good Friday 4/2/10.

Back to the original question what is Sosua like during Semana Santa when ever the phuck it is. Shut down, hopping, lame, fetal position, thumb sucking, or rocking & rolling as usual?

Thanks for the info. I am going to the Colmado now to buy a calendar. Thank you very much.

Semana Santa actually starts on March 26 (Viernes de Dolores) and ends on April 4 (Domingo de la Resurreccion).

Keep in mind, it's a week, actually a week-and-a-half, not just three days.

Would you say there are fewer girls than usual at the clubs (Clasico, etc) at night because of the Semana Santa?

There have been fewer the past couple of nights, but not much. It's still packed. I'd say it's a drop of about 10%. It's still a "so many chicas, so little time" situation. Instead of choosing between ten, it's nine.

There is no glass allowed on the beach for the Friday and Saturday, the police have check points at all three entrances to the beach. anything in bottles is confiscated or there is always an enterprising dominican there selling plastic bottles to use.

The bars on the beach have to pour the beers in to plastico and return the bottles to the bar. They are very strict with this, even in the gringo bars.

Also no music can be played on the Friday until midnight so the discos open at that time.

Great time to be in Sosua but make sure you have your rooms reserved ahead of time.

Just realised the chica in my avatar was taken on the beach during Semana Santa a few years ago. She was representing a drug company and was handing out free samples of some type of generic viagra. Only in the DR!!!

Another year the health department had a booth set up and they were offering free, on the spot AIDS tests, I remember a lot of the chicas were running around showing off their test results. Only in the DR!!!
