Education Minister Melanio Paredes announced yesterday that milk would be taken out of the school breakfast programs at the schools where food poisoning cases have occurred until the causes are determined. Paredes made the announcement after meeting with representatives of the companies that supply the food products for the School Breakfast Program.
He added that the task of monitoring and quality control of these products would be passed on to the Department of Environmental Health of the Ministry of Public Health. Together with the General Department of Weights and Measures (Digenor), they will begin a revision of quality control measures at the companies that supply the school breakfast program today. He said that in two weeks time they would be able to provide some test results.
El Caribe newspaper confirmed Lacteos Dominicanos (Ladom) is the supplier of the milk drink that is suspected to have caused food poisoning in around 85 children at public schools nationwide in February and March.
