The director of the Anti-Asset Laundering Division of the Prosecutor General Office, German Miranda Villalona criticized government investigative bodies for not producing the necessary financial intelligence. He said that "surprises" such as the case of Arturo del Tiempo Marques are the result of weaknesses of the intelligence services of the government. He says the weaknesses permits organized crime activities and the use of the country as a financial haven.
He said that if the case against Arturo del Tiempo were in his hands, he would investigate everyone, starting by the organizations that have violated the Law on Money Laundering. But he washed his hands of being able to take action, saying the case follow up did not fall within his jurisdiction.
The Torre Atiemar case is that of a high rise that now news reports show is linked to Arturo Del Tiempo Marques, arrested for drug trafficking in Spain. News reports appearing in 7dias.com.do online news portal revealed the developer did not appear to have the business track record to merit receiving the kind of financing received from the government bank.
"Within the weaknesses and strengths of the Dominican state, we cannot allow that in 2010 this kind of weak information, nor infamous escapes that we are having, continue. Those days are over," he said.
Miranda Villalona told Diario Libre that organized crime is no longer vertical, but rather horizontal and involves many former military and former government officers.

On z101fm, commentator Willy Rodriguez revealed that the investigation was discovered after the same freight container was suspect for having made seven trips to Spain, consigned to the same persons.
Reportedly, the Spanish authorities are awaiting for an explanation from Dominican authorities as to where the drugs were warehoused and who stocked the freight container. Rodriguez called for information on who in government introduced Del Tiempo to President Leonel Fernandez.
The freight container had left the Puerto de Haina, z101fm explained and not the Puerto Multimodal Caucedo as originally reported, said Willy Rodriguez who indicated that his sources were from the Spanish authorities investigating the crime.
