Felt by some, but not by most, a short earthquake occurred yesterday at 1:25pm with its epicenter 14 kms from Monte Plata and 42 kms from Santo Domingo. The Seismological Institute at the state UASD university said the earthquake was also felt in Samana.
The smaller earthquakes are good news for the DR as these allow for a release of energy.
Eugenio Polanco and Juan Chalas, described the earthquake as moderate, and a common event for the island of Hispaniola.
The earthquake reportedly caused cracks in the Sor Susana Dally high school in Yamasa, and some damages to houses in Monte Plata.
