Pueblo Viejo Dominicana Corporation (Barrick Gold) said yesterday that all but three of those that were intoxicated at the plant have been released from hospitals. PVDC says that 348 employees were affected, while another 600 did not suffer symptoms and were back at work. The company attributes the intoxication to food poisoning at lunch.
The management denied reports that the intoxication could have been for poisonous gasses.
It said it awaits lab test report from Sodexo, the multinational company that it has subcontracted for lodging and food services.
