President Leonel Fernandez has accepted the resignation of the country's ambassador in Colombia, Angel Lockward. Last week, Lockward had announced he was submitting his resignation, but news reports indicated he never deposited the resignation at the Ministry of Foreign Relations. But Diario Libre says that President Fernandez has accepted the resignation. Lockward had told Diario Libre it was up to President Leonel Fernandez to announce whether he would continue in the post.
Now 7dias.com.do online news portal says that the Ministry of Foreign Relations has asked the controversial politician to leave Colombia. The portal says the Ministry sent him a letter dated 15 March where Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso orders Lockward to travel immediately to the DR to discuss matters of interest to the country.
The news portal says that when the letter was issued, apparently the Minister did not know that Lockward was already in the country.
In the same letter, the Ministry gives instructions as to who should temporarily head the Dominican mission in Colombia -- Counsellor Minister Briuni Garabito.
