The Vicini Group has announced it is beginning construction of highrise residential development in the area of the Sans Souci port, on the eastern side of Santo Domingo. The investment is part of major urban renewal works underway by the Grupo Inversiones Turisticas Sans Souci (ITSS). These have included the completed remodeling of the cruise ship port and the construction of the Plaza Juan Baron for shows and events on the Malecon. The real estate development calls for US$500 million in the highrises, hotel, convention center and touristic faciilities in an area of 480,000 square meters that would be developed over 15 years.
The government announced that the Naval Base will be moved to Boca Chica.
Luis Molina, director of the ITSS project, said that the development will have mixed tourism, residential and shopping use.
