Prosecutor General Radhames Jimenez Pena said that his office has more than 100 requests for extradition made by the United States against Dominicans, most for drug trafficking. As reported in Hoy, he also commented that statements by German Miranda Villalona, director of the Anti-Asset Laundering Division of the Prosecutor General Office, are not prudent. Miranda Villalona had criticized the prosecutor office handling of investigation into the case of the Atiemar Tower promoted by Arturo Del Tiempo Marques, recently arrested in Spain on charges of smuggling 1,200 kilos of cocaine into Spain.
On Monday, Miranda Villalona criticized government investigative bodies for not producing the necessary financial intelligence. He said that "surprises" such as the case of Arturo del Tiempo Marques are the result of weaknesses of the intelligence services of the government. He said the weaknesses permits organized crime activities and the use of the country as a financial haven.
