The Central Electoral Board (JCE) plenary body will meet today to go through a marathon-like agenda that includes 34 appeals for revision, correction, verification or challenges by aspiring candidates. The JCE will review the congressional candidates who were registered with the aim of accepting or rejecting them.
Of the cases that will be heard, 11 are related to the PRD, 9 are from the PLD, 8 are from the PRSC, 2 are from the Social-Democrat Alliance (ASD), and just one is from the Independent Revolutionary Party (PRI).
When meeting, the JCE judges will only decide on the nominations for senators and deputies, because appeals at municipal level for mayors and council members have to be decided by the 155 Elections Boards in each district.
The deadline for challenging candidates is tomorrow, when the Plenary and the local Election Boards (JE) have to announce their decisions as to whether or not the contested nomination is accepted.
Law 275-97 establishes that 24 hours later, the JCE and the JE should announce their respective Resolutions on the Acceptance of Candidates.
