Commenting on the appeals regarding candidates in the municipal and congressional election of 16 May 2010, in Sunday's Hoy newspaper Juan Bolivar Diaz wrote about what he describes as the elections just being another example of the "business of politics."
He quotes former foreign minister during the Hipolito Mejia administration, Hugo Tolentino Dipp, who presided the primary of the PRD, as saying that "politics has become a simple business."
Commenting on the candidates, Candido Mercedes of Participacion Ciudadana says: "We have a democracy that is more fractured every day". He declared that what we have is a "partycracy", with actions and decisions that are creating a "plutocracy", understood as "government of the few."
