The Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Nicolas de Jesus Cardinal Lopez Rodriguez, has baptized the first ever set of Dominican sextuplets at Santo Domingo's Cathedral. The youngsters are now six months old and their baptism was described as "long and picturesque" by the local papers. As the six were plunged into the baptismal waters, they displayed their future abilities as swimmers as they splashed with their hands and feet. A group from Villa Mella sang old songs called "palos" as the twelve new godparents lined up with their new charges. The godparents included Minister of Public Health Bautista Rojas Gomez, Education Minister Alejandrina German and journalist Dashira Martinez.
Taking advantage of the media coverage of the event, Cardinal Lopez Rodriguez told reporters that the National Police needed to be cleaned out as soon as possible since they were "not fighting crime."
