[DR1] BASC certifies 25 in DR

The BASC program, the Business Alliance for Secure Commerce, has certified 25 Dominican companies and another twelve are in process. This information was distributed by the BASC Dominican director, Jose Nelton Gonzalez and William Malamud, executive vice president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Santo Domingo (AmCham). According to Malamud, the Cerveceria Nacional Dominicana (makers of Presidente beer), the Punta Caucedo Multimodal Port and the Port of Haina are among the entities that have been certified. BASC is a private sector strategy that combines both local and foreign businesses, and is designed to protect and secure international commerce. The certification process obliges the participating company to fully vet each and every one of its labor force and ownership. Because of the higher security levels, certification brings insurance costs shipments down.
