The Municipality of the National District in combination with the National Police is placing a 24-hour patrol of 150 police agents on foot and on vehicles and motorcycles along the Malecon of Santo Domingo, the waterfront avenue. The municipality announced that six vehicles and two policemen on motorcycles will be part of the patrol that seeks to guarantee the safety of visitors and residents when strolling along the sea-bordering avenue.
Mayor Roberto Salcedo and the Chief of Police Rafael Guillermo Guzman Fermin made the announcement yesterday. The mayor also said that bids have been requested for restoring the lighting along the entire length of the avenue. Also under study is the implementation of traffic rules to ban trucks and freight trailer usage of the boulevard.
