The president of the Association of Industries of the DR, Manuel Diez Cabral rejects the installation of x-ray equipment by the ICCSI without the backing of the Customs Department. Diez Cabral says that without the support of the Customs Department, the costs of imports and exports will just increase.
On Monday, ICCSI announced its intention to obligate the private sector to pay a new tariff for inspection services (X-rays). ICCSI argues that "there will be no cost to the Dominican government". But Diez Cabral counters that "the direct costs will be paid by the industrialists and exporters, and we warn that this will equally affect the state, since a reduction in exports will mean an increase in the commercial trade deficit of the country".
