I stayed there last year with Vak. Its centrally located with a large pool and restaurant. I paid $30 for my room but the place is run down. I don't think I will be staying there again.

Do they have safes...

I dont mind a cabana but psriches and I want to hit illusions and I dont feel comfortable leaving my things unattended.

Do cabanas have safes?

Do yourself a favor, stay at Platino, and lock up your stuff.

Aloha is a nice hotel. I've stayed there several times. The location is also very good. Close to the Monument and many nice restuarants and stores. During the week and saturday, the area is packed with the work crowd and people shopping. There are a lot of beautiful women right outside the hotel that work in the area. Breakfast is included at the hotel. The rooms are a little small though. The hotel is chica friendly. These pics were taken there

The best thing about Matun is the location, but it is totally rundown. I would stay there again if I got a decent rate.

Here's a pic of the very beautiful Jessica in my Matun room:

Aloha is owned byn the same people who own the Gran Almirante (best hotel in Santiago, expensive, has a casino, multiple restaurants, and NOT guest friendly...but my novia lives 3 blocks away). A class company.

I may be staying @ Platino next trip. Novia has a car. Half the price if Gran Almirante; I don't need to be so close to her anymore.

DT is high on Platino. Speaks highly about the place.

You guys probably already left but here is the info...

Matum is completely renovated, I doubt rooms are $30 anymore. Looks very nice inside and out.

Platino does have safes in the Jr. Suites and bigger but not in the standard or double rooms. Personally at 6'3" I put my valuables on top of the closet in the standard room in the Platino, I don't grab it when a girl is there and she can't see it either when she is in the room, also if she wanted it most of them would need a boost to get up top anyways.

Does anyone have any information about this place?

I stayed at the Matum one time this past Fall. I didn't like it. My room was shitty and no TV. My air-conditioner sounded like a lawnmower. Only good thing is there is a casino and a night club in the hotel. But I have stayed at better hotels for cheaper in STI.

Dominicans seem to think it’s a nice hotel....mainly because of the casino and club. But that doesn't matter to me. I won't stay there again

I will post the number and contact info when I get home

During a recent secret mission to Santiago, i stayed at the Hotel Matum and Casino (pronounced "ma toom").

The rooms are completely renovated in a modern fashion chic. Think fancy bathroom sink, thick wood doors/furnishings, TV, air cond, fully stocked fridge, comfortable bed, parking, very clean and modern. Chica friendly. Heard there was a pool as well.

Very classy joint that i recommend!

Located next to a Casino and down the street from the Monument.

$55-$70 including tax and time of year.

Also, there is an interesting exhibit about the 1965 invasion of DR and the trouble they had there at the time. They actually have pictures of some of the shooting and killing that took place right at the Hotel.

Aloha Sol is always a good choice. Central location, about $60 a night, nice people, chica friendly, free parking, safe and fridge in room, decent breakfast - and a free welcome drink ;)

A little more than a year ago, I stayed at the Aloha Sol. Nice hotel, but the rooms are small (a full bed and two feet on each side) and many do not have windows (reminds me of some of the NYC short stay hotels in Manhattan twenty years ago).

Side note - Right around the corner (on the same street that the Mcdonalds is on) was another hotel. I remember it had a nice lobby and seemed very professional (uniformed personnel, etc.). I spoke with the attendant and the nightly rates were even less that the Aloha Sol.

I forgot the name of the hotel, but has anyone stayed there?
