The environmental team of the Academy of Science, and the Environmental and Chemistry Commission of the state UASD university reached the conclusion that symptoms suffered by intoxicated employees at the Barrick Gold mining complex in Sanchez Ramirez province were not those of food intoxication, and were more likely to have been of chemical intoxication.
The president of the Academy of Science, Nelson Moreno Ceballos said that while the company has said it was food poisoning, at no moment have they presented any coprological test results, or proofs of the bacteria in food that would have caused the problem. They also dispute that physicians seeing those affected used masks and gloves.
The officers of the company were not available for comment.
