Assistant Prosecutor General for the Electric System (PGASE) has reported the arrest and arraignment of a man caught in the act of stealing electric cables at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium. The man, named as Milciades Eladio Araujo Vallejo, 44, an unemployed electrician, was sent to preventive custody at Najayo Prison in San Cristobal to await trial. He said he had been out of work for a long time and that is why he resorted to stealing the electric wiring. He was arrested by police from the Naco Police Station, which is located inside the Olympic Center, where he was found to have already stolen two transformers.
The theft of the transformers caused serious inconveniences for athletes who were using the sports complex. The prosecutor described the theft from the public grid system as "a crime against society".
