The DR has chosen to impose safeguard measures on imports of sacks and textiles from Central America. The measure also calls for a 38% increase in tariffs on imports from China and Taiwan for a 200-day period. Moreover, Dominican manufacturers have asked for protection against mass paper and textile imports from Central America and China. Hugo Ramirez Risk, Commissioner for the Trade Defense of the DR, told DR1 that the government issued the resolution acting on Law 01-02 on unfair trade practices and safeguard measures.
Manuel Diez Cabral, president of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic, said that the decision sends a positive message to the Dominican industrial sector.
