Santo Domingo Province Prosecutor Perfecto Acosta reported that in a disarmament operation in entertainment centers they seized 81 pistols, which added to 44 that were seized last weekend, for a total of 125 over the two weekends. Many of these weapons were confiscated from police, military officers, crime investigators, government officers and their chauffeurs, according to the prosecutors report. The military are banned from carrying arms where alcohol is sold. Of these 17 did not have legal permission to carry the arms. Selective searches were done in several discotheques and "colmadones" on Venezuela and San Vicente de Paul avenues, as well as in Villa Mella, Boca Chica, Los Frailes, Los Mina, Villa Duarte, Avenida Espana, Las Caobas and La Victoria.

As reported in El Caribe, Acosta said that they would continue carrying out inspections of entertainment sites so that people get the message and leave their weapons at home when going out drinking.

Acosta said that the raids on the entertainment centers has reduced the 10 to 12 average number of violent crimes in the eastern part of Santo Domingo considerably. Last weekend, there was only one violent incident, which ocurred in Boca Chica.

The prosecutor also reported that 32 underage youngsters were rescued from a discotheque in Villa Mella and 60 motorcycle riders were arrested for investigation in Invivienda.
