Elena Viyella, president of the National Council of Business, said that there is a crisis of authority in the country, where the common citizen distrusts the authorities and the authorities are lax about acting. She commented on the situation on Winston Churchill Avenue last week, where unionized taxi drivers threw rocks at vehicles that broke the transport strike they had called. Viyella says that the incident was captured on film, and the authorities know who these individuals are, but so far there have been no arrests. She said the message is anyone can throw stones and stop traffic without consequences. She also criticized the fact that the electricity law is not being enforced, and that the police carry out raids to pick up motorcycle drivers, many of whom are just on their way to work.
