Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez has asked politicians to go on holiday for the Easter weekend.
However, a poll in El Nacional newspaper showed that 78% of those questioned doubt this will happen. With municipal and congressional elections coming up on 16 May, politicians have less than 6 weeks to convince voters they are the candidates to vote for. Therefore, everyone leaving the cities should not be surprised to come across all forms of political campaigning.
It is equally likely that there will be campaigning in Santo Domingo. The El Nacional survey found that 81% of those polled said they were not going anywhere.
