The Japanese government is supporting community development in the DR. Diario Libre reports that Ambassador Nobutaka Shinomiya delivered US$795,950, or RD$29 million, to help fund 9 non-governmental organizations working in the areas of education, agriculture and environment.
The DR is a major importer of Japanese goods, especially heavy machinery and vehicles. The DR exports cacao and fruit to Japan. Ambassador Shinomiya said that the Japanese government is also supporting the Center for Export and Investment, where it is helping to train Dominican exporters.
