During the traditional Seven Last Words of Christ sermon on Saturday, Catholic Church priests criticized the way in which the government seems to have forgotten the Dominican people, neglecting education, stimulating impunity, corruption, violence and the trafficking of influences. The sermons at the Santo Domingo Cathedral were read by seven priests who said that these evils have not found answers from the authorities in recent years.

Jesuit Father Fernando Polanco said that many people are confused, and enter into the world of drug trafficking and corruption in search of fictional paradises.
Father Manuel Masa spoke of heroine Sonia Marmolejos who breastfed Haitian children orphaned in the 12 January earthquake.
Monsignor Ramon Benito Angeles called on the authorities to tackle corruption, and reduce the number of children without schools.
