Authorities in Puerto Rico denied rumors that fugitive drug baron Jose David Figueroa Agosto had been arrested on Saturday, 3 April. The rumor started when Diario Libre published a report claiming that the couple had been arrested in Puerto Rico.
Figueroa Agosto operated a major drug trafficking ring in the DR for around 10 years after having walked out of a Puerto Rican jail by presenting a forged release order. In Puerto Rico he had been sentenced to 209 years in jail in 1999. He was arrested in 1995 for the murder of "Nandy el Gruero."
Diario Libre sources had said he had been arrested in the suburb of Carolina, near San Juan.
Figueroa Agosto also managed to "escape" when being persecuted in Santo Domingo. Shortly after US$4.6 million and incriminating computers and mobile phones were found in an armored vehicle in a parking lot of the Alco Paradisso luxury high-rise in Santo Domingo. His lover Sobeida Felix was arrested at the time, but was freed on bail and then also disappeared.
