Now it is speculated that the RD$200,000 that was to have been paid for the murder of Jose Gabriel Arias Castillo (Alex El Pelotero) in the La Victoria jail was counterfeit. Arias was in jail after being arrested on suspicion of being an accomplice of fugitive drug baron Figueroa Agosto.
Allegedly, the money was paid by inmate Jaime Espinal Alcantara who now is said to lead a gang of 1,500 men in La Victoria jail and another gang outside of the jail. Assistant prosecutor Ramon Madera said that investigations into the death of Jose Gabriel Arias Castillo (Alex El Pelotero) have revealed that Espinal leads the gang known as Los King, an affiliate of The Nations gang.
Assistant prosecutor Ramon Aristides Madera said that RD$5,000 of the supposed RD$200,000 that was reported to have been paid was recovered at the La Victoria jail cafeteria.
Arias had been arrested in September with 293 kilos of cocaine in a pickup in which an arsenal of weapons was also confiscated.
He is thought to have been murdered by fellow inmates Kelvin Montilla Dominguez and Cristian Martinez Lora. Arias is the third known close aide of Figueroa Agosto to be murdered, after Colonel Jose Amado Gonzalez Gonzalez, and Ramon Omar Antigua Polanco. The authorities have yet to announce any breakthrough in either of these crimes.
