Investigative journalist Alicia Ortega of Noticias SIN reported that Jose Figueroa Agosto and Sobeida Felix Morel spent a month at the Hotel San Juan Water and Beach Club in Puerto Rico, where they behaved like normal tourists. Ortega said that they had stayed at the hotel since the end of January. Ortega says that US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents confirmed their presence by checking hotel records.
Ortega said that Figueroa and Felix Morel used false IDs and rented the rooms whose rates range from US$250 to US$300 a night.
A video has been circulating, showing the couple shopping in San Juan. The alert that the couple was in Puerto Rico came after a member of the Prosecutor General Office of the DR, caught them on his mobile camera, when he himself was at the store.
The couple has been on the run from the authorities since September and October, respectively, when they escaped.
Frank Soto, director of the Department for Investigation of Drug Trafficking and Complex Criminal Cases said that Jose Figueroa Agosto had traveled freely to Puerto Rico and the DR, over the years, as reported in Dario Libre.
