A Spanish online site has revealed that arrested real estate developer Arturo del Tiempo Marques had been enrolled in the Dominican Police, as reported in Diario Libre.
Police Chief Major General Rafael Guillermo Guzman Fermin later confirmed that Arturo del Tiempo Marques, arrested in Spain on drug trafficking charges, had been enrolled in the Police in July and August along with 800 others given the honorary appointment. He said that, nevertheless, Del Tiempo had been removed from the force in January "for not responding to a request for collaboration." The request was made by the Police Criminal Intelligence Department.
Guzman has admitted that his father, himself a former chief of Police, appears as an owner of one of the luxury apartments in the Torre Atiemar, estimated to cost between US$1.3 and US$1.7 million. The deluxe high-rise was financed by the governmental Banco de Reservas and President Leonel Fernandez attended the ground breaking ceremony.
In an interview with El Dia, Guzman said that there were no suspicions surrounding Arturo del Tiempo at the time.
