The citizen watchdog group Participacion Ciudadana has reminded President Fernandez of his campaign promise to call for a Constitution Convention (Constituyente) in order to work out the reforms he wants to introduce. The group suggested that the delegates to the convention should be elected in the May 2008 Presidential elections. PC is echoing the opinions of many jurists and politicians who feel that President Fernandez is not comfortable with the possible results of an elected Constitutional Convention. PC reminded the public that in its platform for the 2004 elections the PLD promised "to sponsor a constitutional assembly whose members were freely elected by the citizens, as an organ of a wide popular base... that is a genuine expression of democracy."
