President Leonel Fernandez has officially launched the construction of the much acclaimed Electricity Highway that will connect the Cibao Valley with the south of the island via 345 KV high tension lines. The new high-tension lines will be financed by different entities of Deutsche Bank. A total of 350 towers will carry the cables from San Cristobal to Santiago. According to Raul Santana, the head of the Dominican Electricity Transmission Company (ETED), the highway will serve the Santiago and the Cibao's electricity needs for the next 30 years.
