While attending the Haiti Donor Conference In New York City, Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso met with US Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Arturo Valenzuela, who is reportedly backing a mega-project aimed at integrating power generation in Colombia, Central America and the Caribbean. As reported in Diario Libre, Valenzuela has pointed out that Guyana has abundant petroleum resources, and Colombia has abundant capacity for generation. He added that the only way to stop Haitians from cutting down the remaining trees is to provide other sources outside of charcoal for cooking.
