Education Minister Melanio Paredes has announced that the National Journalism Award winner is journalist Rafael Molina Morillo, director of El Dia. Over this last year, El Dia has been outstanding in its coverage of drug trafficking. Paredes made the announcement yesterday. The prize, RD$500,000 in cash, will be awarded by President Leonel Fernandez at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace at a date to be announced. The Ministry of Education and the Dominican College of Journalists chose the candidate. Members of the jury included Manuel Henriquez, Dania Goris, Manuel Quiterio Cedeno, Persio Maldonado, Sandra Pons Brugal, Jovanny Matos, as reported in Listin Diario. Previous recipients of the award are Felipe Collado, Francisco Comarazamy, Mario Alvarez Dugan and Radhames Gomez Pepin. The announcement coincided with yesterday's celebration of the Day of the Journalist.
